1977 Harley Davidson XLT Sportster. Touring model with windshield and saddlebags, plus a nice broad OEM original seat. Recently painted in Harley Davidson Chopper Blue to match as close as is possible to the original. Fuel tank has been internally cleaned and coated with Kreem to prevent rust. AMF Harley Davidson tank decals are exact replicas of the original. It's a large 3.5 gallon tank. The saddle bags and compact windshield are HD originals. There is a key for the bag locks and the bags have shaped bag liners that lift out and are like a small bag.  There is NOS plexiglass for all of the windshield panels. Prior owner put brand new front and back Dunlop tires on it before I bought it and they still have the little rubber spikes on them. Too many new parts to list. Excel spreadsheet available of over 3K in parts invested so far. Just ask and I'll send it to you. New OEM header and 2 into 1 stock OEM exhaust system. Has some surface rust on the chrome as it has been stored for a long time. Comes with brand new, still in the wrapper muffler. New front and rear DS fender tins. New tachometer and special Police speedometer plus new cables.  The rims are stock aluminum with zinc plated spokes, front and back. The much larger original broad seat is comfortable and is still in good condition. Tail/Stop light is new, as is both the license plate bracket and the HD license plate holder with reflector. The special rear turn signals with bar extensions for the saddle bags are all new. The left turn signals are intermittently working, but a brand new front controls wiring harness is included that has all of the switches and buttons prewired on, so that should fix the problem.  It has a new sealed beam head lamp, and there is a new chrome headlamp bracket and visor, with chrome plug and hardware. There is a new generator light, but you have to install it when you put the new chrome visor in. All of the decals have been replaced. All of the reflectors have been replaced The nasty looking original Primary chain cover has been replaced with a polished used one, but looks great. New shifter lever, ignition switch, chrome horn cover, left and right handgrips are all new.

The XLT was designed as low cost alternative Police bike, when the Kawasaki 1000 started to take all of Harley's Police business. They made about 980 of them and farmed out a few to different Police and Sheriff's Departments for free trials all over the country. Sadly not one department bought them. The Dealers were all required to buy at least one for each dealership, but they quickly were stripped of the big seat, tank, windshield and saddlebags and were turned back into XL's with regular side pipes. Very few "intact" 1977 XLT's exist today. It was my goal to put this low milege Sportster back into like factory specs. I tried to find as many OEM parts as possible, but some are just not available. It has a brand new battery, with new chrome battery cover, side wraps and a stainless steel polished hold down strap and braided ground. It also has a new battery tender wired in.

The engine ran on 7/3/24 and is typical old Ironhead noisy plus it seems to drip oil. The engine numbers do not match, so it may have been changed. I was told recently that it has a 1978 engine in it. The rocker box covers were chrome plated which has flaked off and needs to be addressed. The front lower forks were also chrome plated which is gone and I have been working on polishing them.It has a Lockhart oil cooler which works well in the Florida climate. I found a correct for the year Keihin butterfly carburetor and have installed a new rebuild kit into it, but I haven't installed it. The old one seems to be running too lean. A binder with a new 1977 owner's manual, a good used Parts Manual and a good used Service Manual are all included, along with a CD Rom service manual. There are also 3 1977 motorcycle magazines that feauture the XLT, with two of them being cover stories. I have tried to save all copies of receipts of some of the items I have purchased and they are also in the binder. I have been able to go back as far as 2017 on Ebay to look up the parts I have purchased and have included the actual prices paid on the spreadsheet.

There are two extra used saddlebag lids, plus an extra new unpainted Emglo front fender with chrome struts. There are three additional seats that come with it, one DS two person and two "mustang" type seats. All in good condition. Four seats total. There are extra new red turn signals if you desire to change the back ones from yellow to red. I have saved the old parts that I have changed out and they are included if you want them. I changed the upper windshield panel as it was stained, but I haven't installed the lower right, left or center panels as there is nothing wrong with them, but the new parts are included. There is a large box of extra chrome windshield parts plus 2 chrome plated hardware bolt and nut kits. There are new extra gasket sets, and speedo and tach cables included, plus the orginal gauge cluster that shows the original mileage, and a new set with the MPH/KWH. Buyer must arrange for shipping or come to Homasassa Florida to pick all the stuff up. Clear Virgina Title, with no wreck history. PLESE NOTE: The engine has been changed with a 1978 engine. I was unaware of this when I opriginally listed the motorcycle. I have reduced the price by $500 to offset this problem. Also, the title has a one digit error in it. It has a "5" where it is supposed to be an "H".  Motorcycle is sold as-is without warranty of any kind.

I have about $4500 in the bike total, including the initial purchase price and excluding the $300 shipping charge I paid to have it shipped down to FL.. I'm 73 and have been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, COPD, and now prostate cancer, so I can't ride it nor work on it anymore. Time to get rid of it and pay hospital bills. It was my retirement project and I'm sad I didn't get to finish it. It's a real diamond in the rough, or you could just part it out and make more then your $1995 investment. Ask me any questions, and I'll also send you the spreadsheet if I can't incorporate it into this listing. Hope it finds a good home. I would also be open to offers if it doesn't get action at the set asking price.I still have a 1980 Kawasaki 250 to finish and get rid of!
