1946 Harley Davidson FL Knucklehead

Restored in 2016-2017 using as many correct and original parts as possible. The motor, transmission, carburetor, generator and speedometer were rebuilt by some of the best in the business. When reproduction parts were used, the best and most correct parts were sourced.

Almost 200 pictures are available showing the restoration and final result. Over 50 pages of receipts are available. Pictures and receipts are available on a USB drive.

The bike starts and runs excellent. It has been ridden approximately 200 miles since the restoration.

Transmission: 1946 transmission rebuilt by well-known Knucklehead expert Jack Larson

Frame: 1946 bullneck frame. All correct castings and die numbers. Exceptionally nice frame that required zero repairs except welding a crack on the toolbox mount bracket. The frame, fork, wheel rims, and other hard parts were blasted, epoxy primed and painted. No attempt was made to smooth factory welds or marks and no pitting on the parts was filled. These parts are survivors and were kept as found. 

Fork: Original offset springer.

Sheet metal: Original fuel tanks, front fender, rear fender, oil tank, outer primary cover, headlight bucket, dash

Carburetor: Original Linkert rebuilt by Mike Millay, "The Linkert Guy" 

Speedometer: Original rebuilt by John Bordas

Generator: Original rebuilt by Richard Brown at HD Generator Service

Wheel hubs, rims, drums: Original 18" Harley rims and hubs and brake drums. Stainless spokes and nipples.

Primary drive and clutch: BDL belt drive 1-1/2". 5-finger clutch hub.

Other original parts: Horn, Guide front fender lamp, Cycle Ray headlight, headlight chrome ring, air cleaner assembly, ignition switch, seat T, seat pan, shift knob, shift gate and shift arm, toolbox, rear stand, floor boards, brake and clutch pedals, front shock, headlight mount, jiffy stand, etc.

Reproduction parts: gas caps, oil cap, inner primary cover, sprockets, seat post, exhaust, hand controls, tail light, tank badges, tank and fender trim, mirror, license mount, ignition coil, battery cover, cables, wiring, misc. hardware.
