Not sure if you agree, but we always found the Model 286 lantern, when made in green, a bit boring. As we like to restore old Coleman items, we decided to restore this early 286 (CL1) with a bit more excitement. As you can see in the photos, it looks a bit more exciting than 1980s green.

This June of 1985 286 lantern was disassembled. The fount and vent were sent out to a shop that media blasted the old paint off of the fount and the porcelain off of the vent. They then applied Chromex to the fount. Chromex is a ceramic coating that resembles chrome but has heat resistance to 1350 degrees and is usually applied to exhaust headers. On a fount, it looks like chrome with an orange peal affect.

To the vent, Header Red Cerakote was applied. Header Red is also a ceramic coating can withstand heat up to 2000 degrees. It has a bit of a matte finish.

Once all of the parts were returned to us, the lantern was reassembled. Upon reassembly, the lantern received a new fuel pick up tube with Schrader valve. It also received the newer style burner frame with globe cushioning heat shield. It also received a new Stansport amber globe and a Coleman generator, cap gasket and logo.

Besides giving this lantern a cool look, it also works excellent!

PACKING: We pack your items the same way we would want to receive them. That is, we pack to minimize any chance of breakage. Lanterns are disassembled of globe, vent and bail handle. The globe is bubble wrapped and then placed in a coffee can or separate carton before being placed in the shipping carton. All other pieces are bubble wrapped and all voids are packed with suitable light weight material so that all parts are immobilized inside the shipping carton.

Fuel will be emptied from all lanterns & stove before shipping!

SHIPPING: PLEASE NOTE! Due to items being damaged with combined shipping, we will combine only TWO won items per shipping carton!!

We use UPS Ground or USPS for the majority of our domestic shipping. International shipping is via Priority Mail International or, if less expensive, we may ship via UPS. Of course, if your item is within First Class weight limitations, we will ship First Class Mail. We will combine shipping when possible, but no more than two won items per carton! Please feel free to email us for a shipping estimate. We try to ship your item within 24 hours of received payment.
