1959 Harley Davidson XLR. They made 5 of these powerplants in '59. Yes, read that again....5 of them. This is arguably one of the rarest HD in existence, besides the '03 prototype the factory still has. I personally believe that these were sold as a powerplant only to a very very select few dealers or racers that were in the "click" back then. I'll leave that argument to the XLR / XR 750 guys. This bike as it sits was campaigned as a TT bike in Michigan back in the 80s. If you were a racer from that area or back then, you know who ran this number. I was told when I got the bike that he won 2 Michigan TT Nationals with it. The chassis is an XR750 chassis that he got from Marty Bushman. Marty was a factory racer and this might have been one of his XR chassis he used when he raced for the factory. The previous owner (who built the bike) said he got the motor from Harry Molenaar, and that he had won an Indiana hillclimb national with the motor. The original tank started to bubble and seep gas. I had a new Phil Little tank made and it is on the bike now with a Pingle petcock. The original tank could be fixed, and it goes with the bike. The bike is a beast. I've been building bikes for almost 40 years. Have built roller scouts, stroked evos, ect. This bike is incredible. If you throw your leg over this running and intend to ride it, you better be an experienced rider, or it will hurt you. Bike is bump start, but the kicker shaft is still in it, and works. The bike is basicly in "as raced condition" from the previous owner who used it as his TT bike. I would be glad to discuss anything about the bike, or it's history with SERIOUS buyers. I have pics to verify it is all XLR as well. Tire kickers and time wasters get the block, I do not have the patience anymore for nonsense. I'm retired now and have decided to thin out the collection. Buyer is responsible for all pick up or transportation of the bike. I prefer cash on pick up. I will be glad to assist a shipper with pick up. Bike is sold as is, where is with no warrantee.
